N.H. House redistricting bill to gov.

CONCORD, N.H., May 15 (UPI) -- A plan shifting New Hampshire towns into new state Senate districts has passed the state House by voice vote and awaits the governor's signature.

Craig Benson, the state's first-term Republican governor, is expected to sign the measure within the next few days. However, reports Foster's Online, Democrats critical of the measure say it amounts to gerrymandering and may even sue to block the reshuffling of towns.

"It is the custom of this body to redistrict the House and it is the custom of the Senate to redistrict the Senate," House Deputy Speaker Michael Whalley, R-Alton, N.H., said in support of the measure.

Benson recently signed a House redistricting measure into law that rearranged seats in several Lakes Region and Seacoast districts. The measure now awaiting Benson's approval remapped state Senate districts.
