Kentucky GOP primary turns nasty

LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 15 (UPI) -- Kentucky's 4th Congressional District GOP primary has turned nasty as an ad accusing front runner Geoff Davis of tax evasion has hit the airwaves.

The attack radio spot, paid for by GOP primary opponent Kevin Murphy, cites published reports in the Cincinnati Enquirer as the basis for charging Davis, "did not pay his taxes for two and a half years after moving to Kentucky."

The negative ad also accuses Davis of committing "violations of federal election law" and refers to allegations of "illegal campaign contributions."

Davis' campaign called the ad "a last minute smear tactic" and "a desperate attempt to mislead voters" in advance of the May 18 primary election.

"All of the charges are lies," Davis campaign manager Justin Brasell told UPI. "The is just one more in a long series of smear tactics that Kevin Murphy has employed in a desperate attempt to mislead voters about Geoff Davis."

"We believe the voters will see through this for what it is and that we will win on Tuesday and in November," Brasell said.
