Out-of-season snow hits western Canada

REGINA, Saskatchewan, May 11 (UPI) -- Much of western Canada and northwestern Ontario was blanketed Tuesday by an late season snowstorm that produced up to four feet of snow in some areas.

Flights were cancelled in Winnipeg and officials closed a highway in Saskatchewan. The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported downed power lines left thousands of Saskatchewan residents without electricity.

The heaviest snowfall occurred in Calgary, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.
