ALBANY, N.Y., May 11 (UPI) -- A 19-year-old intern has accused N.Y. Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell IV of abuse and sexual assault, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.
A police report indicated the woman, who says Powell gave her liquor in a motel room, claims "she was forced to have sexual intercourse by above named suspect after consuming some alcohol" at the motel.
The names on the report are blacked out, but law enforcement sources said Powell is the suspect. The son of former U.S. Rep. Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., D-N.Y., Powell was rumored to be considering a primary run against U.S. Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., the senior U.S. House Ways and Means Committee Democrat.
Powell, who is divorced, has declined to comment on the accusations.
