More may face court martial in Iraq

WASHINGTON, May 11 (UPI) -- Two or three more U.S. soldiers are likely to face court martial for failing to report Iraqi prison abuse, a top Army official said Tuesday.

Six soldiers now face court martial for taking active roles in the abuse of about 20 Iraqi prisoners, the first of which is scheduled for May 19.

Army Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence Lt. Gen. Keith Alexander said "two or three" other soldiers who appear in the pictures are likely to face court martial as well.

"They should have reported it and they were wrong," Alexander said.

A separate investigation continues into the culpability of military intelligence soldiers and contract employees in the abuse of soldiers. When that investigation is complete, expected at the end of May, there may be additional people charged. Among them may be two civilian contractors -- a linguist and an interrogator.

The Pentagon has not identified the accused beyond Spc. Jeremy C. Sivits, who faces the May 19 court martial. However, family members have identified four others to various news outlets: Staff Sgt. Ivan "Chip" Frederick; Spc. Lynndie R. England; Sgt. Javal S. Davis; and Spc. Sabrina D. Harman.
