TARIN KOT, Afghanistan, May 8 (UPI) -- Rebels in a Taliban stronghold in Afghanistan attacked a Marine patrol early Saturday, leaving one soldier dead and another wounded.
The 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit was sent to the province of Uruzgan in southern Afghanistan two weeks ago to provide security for voter registration.

Lt. Col. Tucker Mansager told the New York Times that the Marines came under attack during a nighttime patrol south of Tarin Kot, the provincial capital.
Members of the Taliban are known to be in the remote and mountainous area.
