GAZA, May 8 (UPI) -- Islamic Hamas leaders Saturday vowed to initiate a response that will shake the Middle East to avenge the assassination of its top leaders.

Mohamad Taha, who was released from an Israeli jail Wednesday, told a crowd Saturday that Hamas will rather carry out a "shaking attack" against Israel.

"To carry out an attack that comes after a while from the Israeli assassinations is better than carrying out instant and meaningless attacks," he said, adding "there were a number of attacks despite the Israeli strict measures."

Israel assassinated Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmed Yassin on March 22, and then his successor, Abdel Aziz Rantisi, on April 17.
