China, Italy sign cooperation pact

ROME, May 8 (UPI) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabaonas and Italy's Silvio Berlusconi have signed a declaration boosting bilateral cooperation and mutual understanding.

Wen was in Italy as part of an 11-day European tour, the Chinese government's Xinhua news agency reported Saturday.

A panel formed by the declaration signed Friday will seek to guide, coordinate and evaluate bilateral cooperation in politics, economy and trade, culture, science and technology, and academics.

The committee will coordinate proposals, projects and activities from both sides within the long-term, comprehensive and strategic framework.

The foreign ministries of the two countries will be responsible for organizing, arranging and coordinating the committee's work. The committee will hold a meeting once a year in the two countries' capitals on a rotating bases, the declaration said.
