Iran slams U.S. report on terrorism

TEHRAN, April 30 (UPI) -- Iran criticized Friday the U.S. State Department's annual report on terror which continued to accuse it of supporting terrorism.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Asafi said U.S. claims were "nothing but a deceitful repetition of allegations that have no value at all," the Iranian News Agency, IRNA, reported.

"The spectacular and repetitive American stances are being dealt with by the whole world" by largely ignoring them," Asafi said. He said that, on the contrary, the United States is the main supporter of terrorism, becasue it supports Israel.

He said the United States is contributing to the spread of terrorism by supporting assassination operations against Palestinians.

"Washington is in no position to evaluate others," he added.

A U.S. State Department report issued Thursday accused Iran of continuing to sponsor terrorism by providing support for groups such as Lebanon's Hezbollah and the Palestinian's Hamas and Islamic Jihad, listed as terrorist groups.
