WASHINGTON, April 29 (UPI) -- The U.S. State Department says it hopes the next round of talks on dismantling North Korea's nuclear program will make progress.
A six-party working group is set to open the next preliminary round in Beijing on May 12.
A U.S. interagency team that will take part in the talks will be headed by U.S. Special Envoy Joseph DiTrani, State Department deputy spokesman Adam Ereli said. The meeting will be open-ended but should lead to the next plenary session in June, he said.
"Our aim ... is the complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear programs," Ereli said. "And we hope that we'll be able to make progress toward that end ..."
The other participants in the talks are Russia, China, Japan, South Korea and North Korea.
