Arabs boycott firms over Israel trade

DAMASCUS, Syria, April 29 (UPI) -- The Arab Congress for the Boycott of Israel placed 10 more international companies on its blacklist for dealing with Israel.

Sources told UPI at the end of the four-day congress, which closed in Damascus Thursday, two American companies, a Turkish firm and an Indian operation were among the newly blacklisted entities.

"These companies operate in the fields of technology and in the production of alcoholic drinks and one of them has Israeli capital," the source said without disclosing the names of the companies.

Ahmed Khazaa, who heads the Arab Boycott office in Damascas, said the congress decided to study the cases of several other companies to determine whether they were dealing with the Jewish state or had branches there.

He said the congress declined to disclose the names of the blacklisted companies to give them time to rethink their policies towards Israel.

The boycott, which was suspended after the Oslo accords were signed, resumed four years ago.
