PA warns Hamas on targeting collaborators

GAZA, April 28 (UPI) -- The Palestinian Authority Wednesday called on Hamas not to act unilaterally against Palestinians collaborating with Israel.

"No Palestinian faction has the right to claim that it would work on prosecuting collaborators alone," Rachid Abu-Shbak, head of the PA preventive security services, told reporters.

Abu-Shbak's statements came after a Hamas announcement made it would prosecute all those who collaborate with Israel, considering the collaborators an essential factor behind the assassinations of the movement's leaders, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and Abdel Aziz Rantisi.

"As long as there is a PA that is responsible for internal security, this authority should assume its responsibilities and arrest those collaborators and put them to justice," Abu-Shbak stated.

He said the security services had already arrested a number of Palestinians suspected of collaborating with Israel's intelligence services but declined to give further details.
