MOSCOW, April 20 (UPI) -- Russia and Qatar have put aside diplomatic wrangling over the trial of two Russian agents for the death of former Chechen President Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev.

The Moscow Times said Tuesday Security Council chief Igor Ivanov said Moscow will respect whatever verdict is handed down in the trial of the agents.

"We respect the Qatari court and expect that it will make a decision in the view of friendly relations between our countries," Ivanov said after talks with Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani.

The men were arrested in the capital, Doha, in February after a car bomb exploded, killing Yandarbiyev.

President Vladimir Putin discussed the issue with the Qatari leader, Emir Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, by telephone on March 24.

The newspaper said analysts monitoring the diplomatic exchanges expect the agents will be convicted in an open trial and then pardoned.
