Lebanese protest in front of U.S. embassy

BEIRUT, Lebanon, April 20 (UPI) -- Angry protesters raising pictures of slain Hamas leaders Sheik Ahmad Yassin and Abdel Aziz Rantisi demonstrated Tuesday in front of the U.S. embassy in Beirut.

The crowd of 500 protesters was confronted by riot police who used water hoses and tear gas to prevent the protesters from storming the embassy.

The protesters brandishing Palestinian and Lebanese flags shouted anti-U.S. and anti-Israel slogans before dispersing.

Police sources said several protesters were rounded up.

Israel killed the two Hamas leaders within a month in air attacks on their cars in Gaza.
