Media Fund 527 releases IRS report

WASHINGTON, April 16 (UPI) -- The Media Fund, a 527 organization opposed to President George W. Bush, said Friday it had spent $18.5 million on first quarter 2004 television ads.

The group, which is organized under Section 527 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service code, released what it called its "IRS Report" for the period, showing that between January 1 and March 31, 2004, it took in $12 million in donations.

Harold Ickes, the former Clinton White House aide who oversees its work, said he was proud of all it had accomplished thus far. "The Media Fund has ensured Americans hear the truth," Ickes said.

A politically liberal group that is trying to defeat the president in November, it said the the money was spent on ads that aired in 17 battleground states concerning health care, jobs and the economy.
