Russia vows to keep its energy promises

BEIJING, April 14 (UPI) -- Russia Wednesday assured China and other East Asian countries that it will keep its promises on energy programs.

That assurance was given in Beijing by Igor Rogachev, Russia's ambassador to China, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

Russia currently is trying to finalize plans for a pipeline to transport petroleum and natural gas to China.

The ambassador, however, warned his government also must consider both Russia's interests and energy demand in the Far East.

Rogachev said Russia expects to announce its decision on energy cooperation with China later this year.
