SAN ANTONIO, April 14 (UPI) -- Rep. Ciro Rodriguez, D-Texas, Wednesday filed a lawsuit challenging a recount that gave his opponent the Democratic nomination in the Texas primary.
The lawsuit filed in state district court alleges there is "no ready or plausible explanation" for the swing in votes to Henry Cuellar, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
Rodriguez, chairman of the Hispanic Congressional Caucus, had a 145-vote lead after the March 9 primary, but after the recount Cuellar took a 203-vote lead based on swing votes found in Zapata and Webb counties.
The Rodriguez campaign has hinted fraud might be involved in the outcome, but the lawsuit does not make any specific allegations, the Express-News reported.
"We're not going to go into details of what we're going to prove and how we're going to prove it," said Buck Wood, Rodriguez's lawyer.
Cuellar spokesman T.J. Connolly told the newspaper there are no specific allegations because there was no wrongdoing by Cuellar, a former Texas secretary of state.
