SAN ANTONIO, April 7 (UPI) -- A lawyer for the losing candidate in a race for the Democratic nomination in a South Texas congressional race is questioning voter address changes.
Attorney Buck Wood is preparing a lawsuit to challenge Henry Cuellar's 203-vote victory over his client, veteran Rep. U.S. Ciro Rodriguez, in a recount. Rodriguez had initially won by 145 votes in the March 9 primary.
Wood is questioning nearly 2,000 vote address changes received in one county prior to the primary. He's concerned voters may have changed addresses to vote in the district but not actually moved, The San Antonio Express-News reported.
Wood said the lawsuit may be filed early next week.
T.J. Connolly, a spokesman for Cuellar, called Wood's theory weak.
"The rhetoric has gotten stronger, the temperature has gotten hotter and the claims have gotten sharper, but at no time have they come forward with a single shred of evidence," he told the newspaper.
The recount results were officially canvassed Monday and Cuellar was declared the Democratic nominee in the 28th District.
