Muslim Army chaplain James Yee back home

SEATTLE, April 6 (UPI) -- A Muslim Army chaplain who had been accused of espionage was home Tuesday in the Seattle area where fellow Muslims were still simmering over the case.

Supporters told KOMO-TV at Sea-Tac airport late Monday that the case against Capt. James Yee was persecuted because of his faith.

Yee had been locked up at Guantanamo Bay for 76 days after being arrested on suspicion of providing Muslim extremists with information about the al-Qaida detainees he counseled at the Cuban prison.

The charges were eventually reduced to relatively minor counts of adultery and downloading pornography on his military computer, but his lawyer said he should be given a formal apology by the Army brass.

Yee, who is based at Fort Lewis in Washington state, told reporters his ordeal reminded him that the truth will always win out.
