Wright wins Pulitzer for drama

NEW YORK, April 5 (UPI) -- Writer Doug Wright won the 2004 Pulitzer Prize Monday for drama for his play "I Am My Own Wife" in New York.

"I Am My Own Wife" chronicles Wright's fascination with the life of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a German transvestite caught up in the great European dramas of the 20th century.

Wright is best-known for his award-winning drama "Quills," which he adapted into a screenplay for a 2000 film starring Geoffrey Rush, Michael Caine and Kate Winslet.

Also nominated for the Pulitzer for drama were "Man from Nebraska" by Tracy Letts and "Omnium Gatherum" by Theresa Rebeck and Alexandra Gersten-Vassilaros.
