WA Post wins foreign reporting Pulitzer

NEW YORK, April 5 (UPI) -- The 2004 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting went to Anthony Shadid of The Washington Post Monday for his coverage of the Iraqi war and its aftermath.

The Pulitzer panel at Columbia University in New York said Shadid's reporting showed "extraordinary ability to capture, at personal peril, the voices and emotions of Iraqis as their country was invaded, their leader toppled and their way of life upended."

Other finalists included Roger Thurow and Scott Kilman of The Wall Street Journal for their stories on starvation in Africa, and David Zucchino of the Los Angeles Times for his close-up view of combat as American soldiers invaded Iraq.
