Freed Saudi reformists repentant

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, April 3 (UPI) -- A Saudi Interior Ministry source said Saturday three reformists held for instigating violence against the regime were freed after confession and repentance.

The source was quoted by the daily newspaper Okaz as saying the three men who were among 116 reform activists imprisoned for calling for political changes. They were reportedly freed March 29 after admitting they were wrong and promising not to engage in any activity harmful to the national interest.

Saudi authorities had accused the men of calling for more political sharing and public freedoms. They were charged with instigating dissent in the society and undermining national unity.
