AUCKLAND, New Zealand, March 31 (UPI) -- A pro-euthanasia campaigner was found guilty in New Zealand Wednesday of trying to kill her terminally ill mother.

Former nurse Lesley Martin was found guilty of trying to kill her mother with a morphine overdose. The High Court in Wanganui, however, found her innocent of attempting to suffocate her mother, Joy Martin, with a pillow. The younger woman had denied both counts. Joy Martin died May 28, 1999.

The Jury took six hours to reach its verdict.

It is unclear, however, if Martin will serve any time. Her lawyer requested she not be immediately sentenced and the judge agreed to free her on bail until April 30, the date scheduled for sentencing.
