Bolivian suicide bomber kills three

LA PAZ, Bolivia, March 30 (UPI) -- A Bolivian suicide bomber detonated explosives strapped to his body Tuesday inside the national Congress.

Bolivian state television said the man, a former miner, blew himself up in a protest over his pension, killing at least three people including himself.

The miner, identified as Eustaquio Icachuli Collaca, was reportedly talking with security officials inside the congressional building when the dynamite exploded.

Bolivian lawmakers were meeting at the time, although President Carlos Mesa -- whose office was nearby -- was not in the building.

Mesa came to power in October after miners and farmers led nationwide protests that prompted the resignation of then-President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada.
