BATON ROUGE, La., March 30 (UPI) -- New Gov. Kathleen Blanco wants state legislators to clean up Louisiana politics.
Blanco, a Democrat, proposed the reform package in a speech Monday to her first general session, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.
Blanco first wants legislation to require all statewide elected officials and lawmakers to disclose the sources of their income. Currently, the governor is the only state official required to make an annual disclosure.
"One of the most discouraging things I hear from out-of-state CEOs (chief executive officers) is their negative perception of Louisiana," she said.
Blanco said many of those executives have avoided Louisiana because they believe the state requires them to deal under the table. She said that perception must end if the state is to bring more business to Louisiana.
Blanco also proposed several ethics bills affecting elected officials, lobbyists and campaign contributors.
