BHUBANESHWAR, India, March 29 (UPI) -- India Monday test-fired two medium-range surface-to-air missiles from its eastern test range in Orissa state.
Akash missile can carry 110-pound warheads and is capable of striking several targets in a radius of 15 miles.
Both the tests were successful in determining the accuracy of the missile.
The Indian-built missile, Akash, or Sky, is part of the integrated guided missile program of India's Defense Research and Development Organization.
That program also includes the intermediate-range ballistic missile Agni, the surface-to-surface missile Prithvi, the naval surface-to-air missile Trishul and the anti-tank missile Nag.
India is also developing a state-of-the-art radar, Rajendra, which can keep track of 64 aircraft simultaneously with various ranges, Press Trust of India reported.
