Israel intercepts Turks at Jordan border

AMMAN, Jordan, March 27 (UPI) -- Israeli forces intercepted two Turkish nationals trying to cross clandestinely from Jordan into Israel through the Eilat crossing, officials said Saturday.

Jordanian government spokeswoman Asma Khoder said the interception occurred Friday night. Khoder said the infiltrators were apparently smugglers and their actions were not politically motivated.

Israeli sources said the two Turks were trying to sneak into Israel in search for work, but the Ha'aretz news service said one of the men was carrying illegal narcotics.
