Men guilty in defacing Joe Louis fist

DETROIT, March 25 (UPI) -- Two men will spend six days in jail for painting the huge Joe Louis fist monument in downtown Detroit with white paint last month.

Brett Cashman, 45, and John Price, 27, pleaded guilty to using mops to cover the sculpture with paint Feb. 23. The vandals were spotted by an airport limousine driver who called 911 and police stopped their white paint-splattered pickup on a freeway.

They were charged with malicious destruction of property, a felony carrying a maximum five years in prison.

The pair reached a plea bargain in Wayne County Circuit Court for 20 days of work release and probation, the Detroit Free Press said.

They will also pay $1,000 fines and make restitution for the cost of cleaning paint off the monument to the late world heavyweight boxing champ.
