India tests nuclear missile

BHUBANESHWAR, India, March 25 (UPI) -- India Thursday tested a short-range, surface-to-air missile from its eastern test range in Orissa state.

The 9-foot-long Trishul, or Trident, travels at supersonic speed and has a line of flight guidance system.

The solid fuel propelled missile can carry a 33-pound nuclear warhead for up to six miles. It has been tested about a dozen times because of glitches in its guidance system that developed last year. The latest test was to judge the accuracy of the missile.

India's missile arsenal includes surface-to-surface missile Prithvi, the surface-to-air missile Akash, anti-tank missile Nag and supersonic Brahmos.
