ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, March 22 (UPI) -- Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf has withdrawn a high civilian award on the wife of the disgraced Pakistani nuclear scientist A.Q. Khan.
Pakistani newspapers reported Tuesday that last year the government announced a list of 112 distinguished Pakistani citizens were to receive a civilian award called the Star of Distinction.
The wife of Khan, the former head of Pakistan's nuclear program, was among them.
All 112 were scheduled to receive the award on Tuesday. March 23 in Pakistan is a national day when all civilian and military awards are given.
However, an official list issued in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, does not include the name of Khan's wife, a former Dutch citizen.
Last month, Khan admitted selling nuclear secrets and technology to Iran, Libya and North Korea. Musharraf pardoned him after his televised confession, but placed him under indefinite house arrest.
Khan is considered a national hero by many in Pakistan for enabling the country to make a nuclear bomb. Pakistan tested its nuclear devices in May 1998, days after similar tests by India.
