Prodigy, 21, about to become doctor

TOKYO, March 20 (UPI) -- Tokyo prosecutors intend to charge two air traffic controllers involved in a near miss between two Japan Airlines passenger planes in 2001.
The incident, which injured 83 passengers, stemmed from the controllers giving wrong directions to the aircraft's pilots, the Mainichi Daily News reported Saturday.
If charges are filed, it would be the first time in Japan that air traffic controllers would be held criminally responsible for a near miss.
Officials said an air traffic controller traineeconfused the planes and told one pilot to descend when the plane should have ascended. A supervisor did not notice the error.
