Tyco jurors focus on criminal intent

NEW YORK, March 19 (UPI) -- Jurors deliberated a second day Friday in the New York trial of two former top Tyco executives after indicating possible doubts about the prosecution's case.

Shortly after getting the case Thursday, the jurors sent a series of questions to the judge that focused on the issue of criminal intent, the New York Times said.

This was a major theme defense lawyers for Dennis Kozlowski, the former Tyco chief executive, and Mark Swartz, the former chief financial officer, had argued was missing from the prosecution's case.

Meanwhile, an alternate juror excused when state Supreme Court Judge Michael Obus in Manhattan gave the case to the jury, said there have been talk among jurors throughout the trial that could suggest an acquittal.

Swartz and Kozlowski sre charged with stealing $170 million by hiding details of their pay packages from the board and stealing $430 million by selling Tyco shares after artificially pumping up its price.
