Singapore hangs woman for drug trafficking

SINGAPORE, March 19 (UPI) -- A 37-year old female Chinese convicted of drug trafficking was hanged Friday at Changi Prison, the Central Narcotics Bureau said.

Yen May Woen was arrested in May 2002 in possession of 120 packets of heroin weighing 950.37 grams. The heroin recovered was analyzed to contain 30.16 grams of diamorphine.

Her trial was conducted between January and March last year over seven days and she was found guilty as charged and sentenced to death. The Court of Appeal dismissed her appeal last May.

"This conviction reiterates Singapore's tough stand against drug trafficking," the CNB said in a statement.
