Bill guaranteeing flag rights to pass

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., March 19 (UPI) -- A bill that guarantees Florida condominium owners the right to fly the American flag at their homes has received some opposition in the Legislature.

A Boynton Beach, Fla., couple was threatened with eviction earlier this year for displaying an American flag in their bedroom window, because it violated their contract provision involving display of symbols and signs.

Republican Rep. Adam Hasner of nearby Delray Beach has introduced a bill in the Legislature in Tallahassee, The Miami Herald reported Friday, that guarantees the right to display the flag.

The bill is expected to pass, but there was a glitch on the floor of the House Thursday.

"Would you say that if you don't like a contract that you signed, you should go to the Legislature to change that contract?" asked Rep. Christopher Smith, a Fort Lauderdale Democrat.

"Is that good policy?" he asked.

A final vote is expected next week.
