12-year-old Palestinian boy caught

NABLUS, Israel, March 15 (UPI) -- Israel's military officials said Monday they caught a 12-year-old Palestinian boy as he tried to carry a bomb in his schoolbag through a roadblock near Nablus.

Security forces had reached the roadblock after specific warnings that a suicide bomber was on his way from Nablus, the Jerusalem Post reported.

A military policewoman asked the boy, Abdallah, to hand over his bag for inspection and the boy replied, "The bag is not mine, I was asked to carry it across," the report said.

The area was later cleared and bomb detonated by experts.

According to some reports, those who gave the bag to Abdallah tried unsuccessfully to detonate the bag while he was trying to pass the security check.

The boy reportedly told security forces he was promised a large sum of money in return for carrying the bag and passing it to a girl standing on the other side.

Security forces arrested several female Palestinians in the incident. They said the Fatah-Tanzim cell in Nablus was behind the attempt.
