Dog retrieves human leg from river

HITA, Japan, March 14 (UPI) -- Police in Japan have begun an investigation after a man threw a stick into a river for his dog to retrieve and the dog returned with a human leg.

Investigators combed the river Sunday for a body or body parts, but found nothing, the Mainichi Daily News reported.

The lower left leg was so badly decomposed investigators could not determine if it was from a man or woman, although the foot had been wearing whitish colored shoes, according to police.
