Anti-terror conclave seeks aid to states

VIENNA, March 12 (UPI) -- A Vienna counter-terrorism conference Friday appealed for aid to a number of nations to implement U.N. resolutions and related anti-terror international treaties.

A two-day meeting on the effort to fight terrorism sponsored by the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe reaffirmed the central role of the U.N. Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee.

It adopted the "Vienna Declaration," acknowledging the need to help U.N. members in implementing the panel's Resolution 1373, and 12 anti-terrorism treaties.

The landmark resolution established the CTC and called on member states to prevent and suppress the financing of terrorism, refrain from providing any support to entities or persons involved in terrorist acts, and deny safe haven to those who finance, plan, support and commit such acts.
