Al-Zirkawi: A real person or a myth?

BAGHDAD, March 6 (UPI) -- A member of the Iraq Ruling Council is questioning the existence of a man thought to be responsible for a Tuesday bombing that killed 180 people in Iraq.

Mohsen Abdul Hamid said he's not sure there's any firm evidence notorious al-Qaida operative Abu Misaab al-Zirkawi is, in fact, responsible for the bombing.

"We read the letter attributed to al-Zirkawi ... in which he is inciting violence against all Iraqi factions in a bid to stir strife... But the question is: who is this guy and is he a real personality?" Abdul Hamid said in an interview with Saudi daily Okaz Saturday.

Al-Zirkawi, a Jordanian, is suspected of masterminding and ordering the explosions that killed more than 180 Shiite worshippers in the Shiite holy city of Karbala and at a Shiite shrine in Baghdad.

The U.S. command in Iraq said al-Zirkawi was behind the attacks, ordered by al-Qaida chief, Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden.
