NEW DELHI, March 5 (UPI) -- Indian troops Friday claimed they have shot and killed a top Kashmiri rebel leader in a fierce gun battle, Indo Asian News Service reports.
A spokesman for the Indian military said Abu Jabbar, a top commander of the Harkatul-Jehad-e-Islami terror group, was hiding in a village in Rajouri district when troops raided his hideout.

Jabbar was killed in a fierce gun battle that lasted for more than two hours. The troops also recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and two hand grenades.
Kashmir is India's only Muslim majority state and a site of 15-year-old separatist Islamic uprising. More than a dozen militant groups are fighting a bloody war against Indian troops to seek independence of Kashmir.
