John McCain is newest self-help author

WASHINGTON, March 4 (UPI) -- Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has written a tough-talking self-help book that urges readers to "suck it up" in the face of fear.

To be published by Random House next month, "Why Courage Matters: The Way to a Braver Life" is McCain's third book.

The timing of the book comes as McCain, 67, a former Navy aviator who survived 5 1/2 years as a prisoner of war in Hanoi, finds himself ranked No. 5 -- and the oldest on the list -- of the 25 toughest guys in America in the March issue of Men's Journal.

McCain said providing the public with his perspectives on courage was suggested by an editor and several talk-show hosts.

In the book, McCain addresses the fears that have affected millions after the terror attacks of Sept. 11, The Arizona Republic reported.

"Suck it up, for crying out loud. You're almost certainly going to be okay," he wrote. "And in the unlikely event you're not, do you really want to spend your last days cowering behind plastic sheets and duct tape?

"That's not a life worth living, is it?"
