Administration gets Ds from women

WASHINGTON, March 4 (UPI) -- A cooperative effort released by three women's groups in Washington Wednesday gave the Bush administration low -- but not failing -- grades.

The groups awarded the grades, mostly Ds, for the administration's actions relating to global women's issues.

The Feminist Majority, Women's Environment and Development Organization and the Center for Health and Gender Equity awarded grades for rhetoric and reality.

It gave the administration D for women's rights in Afghanistan and the emergency plan for AIDS relief. It gave the administration an incomplete for its actions regarding women in Iraq.

The "Global Women's Issues Scorecard," gave the administration As for Afghanistan and Iraq when it came to rhetoric and B for the Aids program.

The grades were a slight improvement from the last quarterly report in 2003 that awarded Fs in reality for issues in Iraq and Afghanistan. The AIDS campaign was not graded.
