Judge goes ahead with Terry Nichols trial

MCALESTER, Okla., March 1 (UPI) -- An Oklahoma judge refused Monday to delay the state murder trial of Terry Nichols in the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building.

As a result, jury selection began for Nichols, charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of 160 people.

District Judge Steven Taylor said it would be irresponsible to delay the trial based on speculation about an alleged FBI plan to review the case, the Daily Oklahoman reported.

Nichols' lawyers requested a delay after the FBI said it would review some aspects of the investigation because of a news report that white supremacist bank robbers might have been involved in the bombing plot.

Prosecutors said they were told the FBI is not reopening the investigation, just reviewing some procedures.

Nichols is serving a life prison sentence on a federal conviction in the deaths of eight federal agents in the attack. Co-defendant Timothy McVeigh was executed.
