TEZPUR, India, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Delayed reports from a remote region of India said at least 43 people have died from drinking contaminated liquor, the Press Trust of India said Wednesday.
Officials said 40 of the deaths were in the Sonitpur region of Assam from drinking the homemade brew while three others, including two women, were in the Hariagon district of Assam.

Police investigators were dispatched to both areas to try to trace the origin of the bad liquor and determine if more is circulating.
