NEW DELHI, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Police in the Indian-controlled area of Kashmir said Saturday they arrested three Pakistani militants who planned a suicide attack on the New Delhi airport.
"The three militants belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were arrested by Poonch district police," said Gopal Sharma, the state director general of police, according to CNN.
India, Pakistan and the United States has designated Lashkar e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based Kashmiri militant outfit, a terrorist group. LeT has been fighting Indian rule in Kashmir and has suspected links with the al-Qaida terrorist organization.
"Their preliminary interrogation revealed that they intended to carry out a criminal act of terror on Indira Gandhi International Airport around Feb. 20," Sharma said.
Police said a local guide who was supposed to help the three men reach New Delhi has evaded arrest.
