, Malaysia, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Pakistani nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan sent enriched uranium to Libya and centrifuge parts to Iran, Malaysian police said Friday.
Buhary Syed Abu Tahir, Khan's alleged financier, said he was told the uranium was sent by plane. Khan, known as the "father of the nuclear bomb" in Pakistan is under virtual house arrest after being accused of selling nuclear secrets to other countries.
Iran is said to have paid $3 million in cash for two containers of centrifuge units, according to the police report. Businessmen from Britain, Germany, Switzerland and Turkey were also involved in supplying nuclear technology to Libya, the report said. Centrifuges are used to enrich uranium, which is used in nuclear weapons.
A UPI investigation shows Khan may have used his black market network to finance Pakistan's nuclear weapons research program. Pakistan test-fired a nuclear bomb in 1999.
