SoCal teen discovers he is kidnap victim

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- A Los Angeles-area woman was in jail Wednesday after her teenage son discovered he was on an Internet list of missing kids from Canada.

The Los Angeles Times reported the Chatsworth high school student innocently entered his own name in a search engine and discovered he allegedly had been spirited out of Canada 14 years earlier by his mother during a custody dispute.

Gisele Marie Johnson, 45, was in U.S. custody awaiting extradition to Canada while the stunned youth was preparing for a reunion with his dad, Ron Steinmann, in Ponoka, Alberta.

Friends and neighbors of Gisele Johnson told Los Angeles reporters Wednesday they were stunned and heartbroken at the bizarre turn of events.

Steinmann's family was delighted at the prospect of meeting their long-lost kin but understand it might take some time before he can bond to them.
