Indictrment readied for ex-Enron exec

HOUSTON, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- An indictment against Jeff Skilling, former Enron chief executive officer, may be presented to a Texas grand jury as early as next week, it was reported Friday.

It was not clear what specific charges would be brought before the specially formed Enron grand jury, now two years old, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The case comes on the heels of the Jan. 21 indictment of ex-Enron Chief Accounting Officer Rick Causey and the Jan. 15 guilty pleas of former Chief Financial Officer Andrew Fastow and his wife.

Attorneys involved in the Enron criminal cases expect that Fastow, who agreed to serve 10 years in prison for two counts of conspiracy, gave prosecutors information that will add to the case against Skilling.

Skilling, 50, who denied any wrongdoing, was chief operating officer of Enron from 1997 through early 2001, when he was named CEO. He abruptly resigned from his six-month stint as CEO in August 2001, a few months before the once-respected trading company entered its spiral toward bankruptcy.
