Japan gang rape results in prison sentence

TOKYO, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- The Japanese Justice Ministry has proposed revising the nation's penal code to include prison terms for gang rapists, the Mainichi Daily News reported.

Other proposals for revising the Japanese penal code, introduced in 1907, include increasing maximum prison terms for serious crimes such as murder, rape committed by a single person, assault causing injury, and molestation.

Following a case of gang rape by students from Tokyo's Waseda University, the Justice Ministry additionally called for criminalization of gang rape for the first time in Japan, with a four-year minimum prison term.
