YEKATERINBURG, Russia, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Russian millionaire Viktor Vekselberg, who recently bought a 200-piece collection of Faberge art, said Tuesday he will put the collection on public display.
The first exhibition of the collection, previously owned by Malcolm Forbes, will include nine Easter eggs commissioned to Peter Carl Faberge by Russian Emperor Nicholas II. The exhibit will appear first in Yekaterinburg, the Russian information agency Novosti reported Tuesday.
Vekselberg was been chosen for debut, scheduled sometime during the Orthodox Easter season, because it was where Nicholas II and his family died -- an event commemorated by the Cathedral of All Saints, reported the Yekaterinburg Bishopric's press service.
The traveling exhibit's centerpiece is the Coronation Egg, given by Nicholas II to his spouse, Alexandra Fyodorovna, in 1897 to mark his ascent to the throne.
The Faberge collection will be on display in other Russian cities, including Tyumen, Irkutsk, Moscow, and St. Petersburg.
