BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif., Feb. 6 (UPI) -- A Big Bear Lake, Calif., woman was jailed without bail Friday on charges of killing her autistic adopted daughter, who has not been seen for two years.

Sharon Gill, 47, told police and relatives that 4-year-old Lillian was staying with friends and attending a special school in Milan, Italy, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

Investigators, however, recently discovered the school did not exist and "there's no doubt that the child is dead," said Sgt. Gerrit Tesselaar, who is leading the investigation for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

One friend told authorities Gill admitted killing her daughter and gave a detailed description of how she killed her, authorities said.

John Gill, the girl's father, was also under investigation, police said.
